What group should my student audition for?

Joy Prelude Strings

String players
-play through the audition music with confidence
-developing reading skills on all four strings
-developing intonation, bow articulations, finger dexterity
-comfortable playing in C, G, and D major

Joy Symphony

Woodwind, brass, and percussionists
-play through the audition music with confidence
-able to sight read grade 2 music
-support and sustain a good tone
-adjust intonation and articulation to match those around them
-comfortable playing solo or in a small section
-comfortable in concert C, G, and D major

String players

-play through the audition music with confidence
-able to sight read grade 2 music in 1st position
-reading skills are well developed on all four strings
-able to follow bowing articulations
-awareness of good intonation and tone production
-shifting into II, III for violin/viola/cello and IV positions for cellos is comfortable
-using vibrato comfortably
-comfortable playing in F and Bb major
